Marketing your App

As you prepare your marketing materials for your Marketplace App, follow these helpful tips and guidelines to create a clear and consistent experience for users, and follow Webflow’s brand and trademark usage policies.

Talking about Apps

As with most technical products, there is often a stark difference between how we talk about the product as the developer compared to how it is marketed and positioned to our customers. Webflow Apps are no exception.

Most notably, while as a developer you are familiar with the inner workings of how an App is built–using Data Clients and Designer Extensions–in the eyes of our customers, an App is an App. As a result, we recommend using the following language when referring to your App in your marketing and educational materials:

Webflow AppA Webflow App is any product or service distributed via the Webflow Marketplace built using Webflow’s REST APIs via a Data Client, our Designer APIs via a Designer Extension–or a combination of the two.
Webflow MarketplaceThe Webflow Marketplace is where Webflow customers can find Apps, Libraries, Templates, Made in Webflow sites, and Experts to assist them in building their site, business, or brand.
Apps PanelA new panel in the Webflow Designer, denoted by the puzzle piece icon, that allows customers to view and launch their installed Apps right in the Webflow Designer.
Launching an AppOnce an App has been installed on a Webflow site, a user can “Launch” the App from the Apps Panel in the Designer. If the App is built using a Designer Extension, launching the App will open the App window in the Designer. If the App is built using only a Data Client, launching the App will take the user to the App developer’s website.
App windowIf your App is built using a Designer Extension, you can refer to the Designer Extension window as the App window, or simply the App. Please do not refer to this panel as the Designer Extension, or Extension window in your user-facing materials.
Webflow DesignerThe main interface of Webflow’s product where customers can design, build and edit their sites.

If your App interacts with specific capabilities in the Webflow product, you can use the Webflow glossary to ensure you are speaking about those features in a way that will resonate with the Webflow community.

Marketing tips and guidelines

Logo usage and naming guidelines

Using Webflow’s brand in the Marketplace

You’ll need permission from Webflow, Inc. to use the Webflow name or logo as part of any project, product, service, domain name, or company name.

And we’ll be happy to grant permission to use the Webflow name and logo for projects that:

  • Promote the reach and improvement of Webflow software
  • Are non-commercial, aka, not for-profit

However, please do not use Webflow as part of a domain name. Only officially recognized Webflow communities may use the name in or as part of their domain name.

All other Webflow-related businesses or projects can use the Webflow name and logo to refer to and explain their services, but not as part of a product, project, service, domain name, or company name. They cannot use them in any way that suggests an affiliation with or endorsement by Webflow.

For example, a consulting company can describe its business as “123 Web Services, offering Webflow consulting for small businesses,” but can’t call its business “The Webflow Consulting Company.”

Similarly, a business related to Webflow templates can describe itself as “XYZ Templates, the world’s best Webflow templates,” but cannot call itself “The Webflow Template Portal.”

Similarly, it’s okay to use the Webflow logo as part of a page that describes your products or services, but it is not okay to use it as part of your company or product logo or branding itself.

We do not allow the use of the trademark in advertising, including AdSense/AdWords.

Please note that we do not want to limit commercial activity around Webflow. We encourage Webflow-based businesses, and thousands of them are thriving while complying with this policy, including our Webflow Experts. You can review Webflow’s full Trademark Usage Policy here.

Using other brand’s identities in the Marketplace

If you are developing an App that integrates with another product (for example, Google Analytics) you are required to have the permission of the product to represent your App as affiliated with their brand in any way on your Marketplace listing. This specifically includes representation of affiliation in your Apps name and logo design–you are allowed to list other products and services you integrate within your App description and features.

If you do not have the permission of the other product to use their trademarks and identity, your App listing will be denied during the review process.

Promoting your Webflow App

We encourage all App Developers to take ownership of the marketing and promotion of their products. While creating a best-in-class product experience, and ensuring that you are providing real value to customers is always the first-step in building a successful product, we have seen many developers succeed through regular and well-targeted marketing efforts.

Here are some suggestions about how you can promote your Webflow App to new and existing customers:

  • Social Media
  • Content marketing such as blog posts, webinars, or live streams
  • Email marketing to an existing user base
  • Press, podcasts or sponsorship opportunities
